I am an Assistant Professor of Physiology (RTD-B) at the University of Verona, Department of Neuroscience, Biomedicine and Movement Sciences (DNBM). In the past 15 years, I have been strongly dedicated to preclinical neurophysiology experiments, mainly in mice and rats, both in physiological and pathological conditions.
The main aim of my research focuses on the study of the functional neural network of cortical/subcortical regions during behavioral tasks and the possibility of modulating this activity by non-invasive techniques, such as transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) or repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). My background is primarily based on the study of neural plasticity, combining neurophysiological approaches (in vivo electrophysiology and neural modulation) with histological analyses and on investigating specific brain regions activity.
At the University of Verona, my teaching activity is mostly focused on physiology courses in different Master’s degrees (Neurophysiology and neuromodulation, Medicine and Surgery, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Obstetrics); I also lead a course of Science Communication and Dissemination for medical students.
Additionally, I have a strong interest in the history of science and scientific dissemination, fields that I have pursued for many years. I cooperate with Italian newspapers and take an active part in scientific festivals, school and general audience dissemination.
